Early in 2012, Peter and Bula, friends from college, were discussing Peter’s entry into a new business premised on taking a large commercial space and breaking it into many smaller spaces (salon suites for hair stylists) so that it could facilitate the entrepreneurial efforts of many independent contractors. Bula began to observe all of the underutilized spaces in his immediate neighborhood, Old City, Philadelphia.
Shortly thereafter Meg came to Bula. She was looking to start a picnic catering company focused on the tourism market in Philadelphia. For her, the risks were high and the costs of kitchen equipment combined with the obligation of a long term lease commitment were daunting.
After weeks of searching on the internet, and tons of phone calls, Bula found no answers. Then, while at a local Church, he saw that the commercial kitchen was only being used a few times a week. The church could use the support, and Meg could use a commercial kitchen. Bula made the introduction, and it worked.
"We realized something big. We had actually enabled the sharing of space and solved a real life bottleneck. We also realized that connections would be made and transactions would occur if facilitated. We had to build a scalable way to facilitate these connections."
ShareMySpace was conceived with the objective of making any type of space into an opportunity. ShareMySpace aims to make it easy to search for and book any type of non-residential space.
ShareMySpace, coincidentally, currently thrives within a coworking shared space in Philadelphia called IndyHall.
