Fantastic environment. M4Arts is a unique establishment in the heart of DC. Humble, conservatory level faculty with teaching styles approachable to any level and age. Susanna is responsive, extremely engaged and cares for each client even if they are not her private students. She continuously brings in world class faculty and caters to every age for both private and group lessons. All of the faculty here care about their students. The organization supports music through all avenues including collaborations, masterclasses and yoga classes.
Used the $75 7-Day Visitor Guest Pass which gives access from 7am to 10pm to all the practice rooms on a first come first served basis. I was pretty much alone throughout the morning and maximised my time on that excellent Kawaii baby grand. Great location with easy access from Dupont Circle station. A bargain if you have enough time to maximise on that offer!
M Institute is a tiny gem in the heart of a big city. With its new location in the Dupont Circle area of D.C., I'm absolutely confident it will continue to grow in stature and reputation. There is a totally unique ambience, blending elements and atmosphere from the old world style conservatory with a contemporary twist. The President and CEO is fabulously talented, and the quintessential professional. This boutique arts institute will enjoy a great future, and I express my sincere congratulations as well as extend my warmest wishes for continued & well deserved success!
M Institute for the Arts is a warm and kind, family-feel nonprofit conservatory staffed by master professionals, featuring a comprehensive semester program, and a community ambience; I highly recommend it to any person of any age seeking serious or casual music lessons. M4Arts worked with and stuck by me during a major illness, is flexible with scheduling, and every instructor I've taken lessons from has been highly professional at their craft. I take classical voice from CEO and professional soprano Susanna Barasch and occassionally Thomas M. and have made tremendous progress-I've been unlearning bad habits I learned from subpar instruction when I was younger. I also recommend their Beginner's Piano class.
The Semester program is exactly what I was looking for. I originally wanted to major in Music years ago but couldn't. The Semester program offers students monthly Studio workshops for performance feedback, Musicianship and other musical skills classes, a recital, and discounts on practice rooms. And if you need practice rooms, M4Arts is the place -they have an ENTIRE floor of practice rooms and are very reasonable compared to the other options I explored. You also don't have to participate in the Semester program if you don't want to, and can tailor your lessons to how often you want to meet - but I find there are financial and educational benefits to choosing the Semester format.
I am very happy with my experience and plan to expand into piano lessons as well as in-depth theory and musical composition in addition to voice in coming semesters. There are several options out there in DC, but for me, M Institute for the Arts was clearly the best choice and atmosphere to continue my musical education.
I had a fantastic voice lesson with Thomas. He took the time in the beginning of the lesson to understand my goals and clarify the best path to take for the lesson. He was collaborative throughout the lesson and got me to think about the physicality of my instrument which helped to improve the consistency of the sound. I thought the lesson was well worth it and would highly recommend the M Institute.
